is one of those few fortunate artists who get there dues
eventually similar to the character of Farhan Akhtar

Currently, a global media director at a multi national firm,

Saregama offers yet another musical and memorable offering
A slice of
history itself !!
Saregama India Ltd, part of RPG Enterprises and
India’s flagship music compa ny,
will host a music exhibition from the September 6th
to 30th , 2008 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (formerly, the Prince of
Wales Museum) . The legendary singer Lata
Mangeshkar will inaugurate the exhibition that aims to
take the visitors through the transformation of Indian music
in the past 110 years .
Commenting on this initiative,
Harsh Goenka, Chairman RPG Enterprises said,
“Saregama is extremely proud to be a driving force behind
this exhibition- an effort to spread the immortal & rich
music heritage that we house and we are happy to have the
association of the city’s museum which offers an ideal
setting. No music lover should miss it”.
The month long exhibition, is a walk through the past few
decades of Indian music. Right from the first machine to
record sound – the rare Edison’s Phonograph to modern
gadgets, the researched presentation is an era wise display
of music, musicians and audio technology. Although, the
mention of the words ‘history’ and ‘museum’ coming from a
century old company brings out dull imagery, care has been
exercised to design the entire exhibition with a highly
engrossing feel. The aesthetic feel of the past is a
beautiful part of the exhibition. There will be several
“listening stations” where visitors can listen to historic
recordings like the first ever song to be recorded, sung by
Gahaur Jan and also the original recordings of great
speeches by Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Nehru and other national
leaders. There is even nostalgic music from regional
languages as well. Early period record players, record
cutting machines, earliest microphones, coloured records and
many other artefacts will also be on display.
CSMVS Museum Director Mr Sabyasachi Mukherjee is looking
forward to the exhibition’s opening. “It is a very unique
exhibition and the Museum is happy to bring to life some of
the most loved sounds and musical heritage of the country
from the beginning of the recording era. I am sure it will
be a big attraction”, said Mr Mukherjee.
Karaoke and a recording studio will add flavour to the
environment. It will enable the understanding of the
recording experience where one can actually record and
playback one’s own voice through different eras in
recording. . Workshops on various forms of music will also
be conducted on weekends by distinguished musicologists in
the field. Prominent singers like Suresh Wadkar,
Bhupendra Singh, Sonu Nigam & Kavita Krishnamoorthy
will also be a part of the exhibition in the form of
special interactive public meetings.
To carry back memories of the exhibition, Saregama will be
offering special exhibition commemorative CDs for sale at
the venue at a special price. The exhibition is curated by
Kushal Gopalka.
The exhibition will also mark the launch of Pasand Meri,
Geet Sathiyon ke- a handpicked collection of Lata
Mangeshkar’s favourite tracks. Commenting on this
elaborate display of culture and the extremely special
occasion owing to the launch of her album, Lata Mangeshkar,
says, “I have always liked to hear some of my own colleagues
like Manna Dey, Mohd. Rafi and also amongst the new
generation singers I like to listen to Udit Narayan, Alka
Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy. I am delighted that Saregama
India Ltd has thought of this unique concept by releasing an
album of my favourite tracks sung by some of my favourite
singers.”
The inaugural function, for special invitees only, is also
marked by a music concert by the renowned vocalist Sangeet
Martand Pandit Jasraj at the enchanting Key Gallery of the
CSMVS museum.

Show
organisers
PANIC over
Sherlyn's outrageous bikini
Audioe & Video on T-Series
available on all music shops.
As the 'outrageous' singer and actress
Sherlyn Chopra prepares to embark upon her f irst
promotional tour for her new album 'Dard-e-Sherlyn',
her show organisers are panicking.
Starting this Saturday, September 6, the
newbie will begin her tour spanning seven prominent cities
of India namely Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune, Vizag,
Hyderabad and Mumbai.
But her organisers are losing sleep over
the bold and flamboyant girl wearing her trademark diamo nd-encrusted
bikini top and golden hot pants that she has famously worn
in the new superhit video of her remix album.
They have been considering stringent
security measures at all her promotional events across the
country. Apart from expecting trouble from unruly crowds due
to the skimpy attire, the organisers also feel it is very
risky for her to wear the bikini top as it is actually
studded with a couple of real diamonds on the sides of the
top.
Special care was taken for this
diamond-studded top when the video was shot at Filmistan
Studio in Mumbai. In fact, Sherlyn had employed an extra
lady assistant just to keep an eye on the top whenever she
left it in her vanity van in between the shots.
"But while travelling from city to city,
obviously the risk will dramatically increase. So it comes
as no surprise, that the organisers are worried about
Sherlyn's protection," says her publicist Dale Bhagwagar.
"It's a delicate-cum-volatile situation with extreme
potential to spark off untoward incidents. Most of the
organisers feel the risk is too big. It will require trem endous
care and vigilance by the security personnel – for Sherlyn
as well as for the diamond top," he adds.
"To be on the safe side, Sherlyn will
perform with around six to eight bouncers in the stage's
vicinity, and four other plain-clothes security men, who
will intermingle with the audience, to subtly tackle any
troublemakers in the crowds," informs Bhagwagar.
After the runaway success of her first
album 'Outrageous' on T-Series, Sherlyn
emerged a diva, out to make men go weak in their knees. The
second album 'Dard-e-Sherlyn' is her tribute to the original
dreamgirl Hema Malini and takes off from her 1976 hit
song "Mujhe dard rehta hai, dil mein dard rehta hai…"
from the film 'Dus Numbri' co-starring Manoj Kumar.
But the "Dard-e-Sherlyn" video has already attracted
19 cuts from the Censor Board and also invited the
ire of Hema Malini.
The yesteryear's actress was obviously
furious and upset when in a recent interview she spoke about
Sherlyn with stinging sarcasm, stating, "I don't even know
why she's linking me with a hot-hot thing. She's trying to
change her image maybe with my name. If she's doing this,
poor thing, I wish her success, for all those who see nudity
will be happy. But my name is Hema Malini and that won't
change for anything."
It can also be recalled that after being
in discussion for appearing on the reality show 'Bigg
Boss', this firebrand bikini babe was shown the door as
she had suggested that the makers install cameras even in
bathrooms of the House, so that she could flaunt her vast
collection of colourful bikinis and inner wear while
bathing. She was keen to generate loads of teenage interest
in the show from both sexes, but the makers had found her
demand too outrageous and she was out.
Now she plans to fully utilise the next
few weeks to aggressively promote her album 'Dard-e-Sherlyn'
through events and endorsements.
